Like many other coastal settlements in the area Buckie is an amalgamation of a number of smaller settlements which have merged over time. The Harbour built by the Cluny family in 1877 remains the true heart of Buckie which can be split into a lower shore area and an upper area with Cluny Square as the centre of the town. The majority of shops and amenities serving the village are near to Cluny Square with a large supermarket also situated on the outskirts of the town. There are a number of primary schools within Buckie which also has a secondary school with a rural catchment.
